New speed cameras on Polish roads

Projects NeuroCar

In February this year CANARD signed a contract for the supply and installation of 70 new TraffiStar SR390 speed recording devices. The devices will be supplied by Lifor Sp. z o.o., and installation will take 50 weeks. As part of the contract, NeuroCar will provide integrating devices to ensure secure communication and automatic analysis of images to identify the offender.

The new TraffiStar SR390 speed cameras are high-tech devices capable of automatically detecting speeding violations in four lanes simultaneously, for vehicles traveling in both directions. The speed cameras take pictures with additional flash illumination, allowing the image of the driver to be clearly captured. A special optical mechanism is responsible for taking a clear picture of the license plate, which allows clear identification of the vehicle.

Each of the new speed cameras is equipped with an integration device (IoT gateway) NeuroCar COMM 5, which performs the following functions:

  • Providing WLAN communications and VPN encryption,
  • Protocol translation in communication between the speed camera and CANARD system,
  • Control of the speed camera on the order of the control panel (activation, setting speed limits, changing descriptions on the photos),
  • Automatic analysis of source material: recognition of registration number, country of origin and vehicle make,
  • Transmission of digital proof of violation to the central system in Warsaw immediately after registration,
  • Measurement of environmental factors (temperature, humidity),
  • Detection of integrity violations (impact, arson, opening of the case) and immediate notification of the control panel.

NeuroCar COMM is equipped with the latest software for ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), which has successfully passed CANARD’s quality tests carried out as part of the bidding process. This software recognizes license plate numbers from 48 countries, vehicle class (passenger car, van, bus, truck) and manufacturer and model (about 2,000 variants).
